Digital converter targets RF power amp designs

The BMR685 digital DC/DC converter from Flex Power Modules delivers 1300 W of continuous output power from a half-brick package. Aimed at RF power amplifier applications and 5G telecom infrastructure, the BMR685 has an adjustable output voltage range of 25 to 55V with up to 26 A of output current.

The converter accepts an input voltage of 36 to 75V and provides isolation of 2250V between input and output. Efficiency at half load is up to 97.2%. Comprehensive overvoltage, overtemperature, and short-circuit protection mechanisms enable the BMR685 to achieve a long operational lifespan, with a mean time between failure rating of more than 4.97 million hours. Operating over a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, the BMR685 offers 100% available power at a 100°C baseplate temperature.

Digital functionality is accessed over the converter’s PMBus interface and allows temperature, voltage, and current monitoring. It also permits simple adjustment of the output voltage. Housed in an industry-standard half-brick format, the BMR685 has dimensions of 61×57.9×12.7 mm (2.4×2.28×0.5 in.).

Samples of the BMR685 DC/DC converter are available now, with production quantities planned for Q2 2021.
